Congratulations, your blog made it to 2008!
As we prepare to welcome 2008, have you done enough to prepare your blog for the challenges ahead? Although the ‘year of the rat’ has been forecasted to bring opportunity and success to the Blogosphere, success still primarily depends on what bloggers do. Today’s post gives you a quick list of what you can do to prepare your blog for 2008.
Reflect On Your 2007 Blog Performance
Perhaps the most important thing you should do to prepare your blog for 2008 is to reflect on your 2007 blog performance. This is important as it will allow you to fully understand your blog, which will help you identify potential problems and possible solutions. By reflecting on your past blog performance, you’ll be able to identify strategies that will help you achieve your blog’s ultimate goal.
Set Your 2008 Blog Objectives
It is a good practice to create a well-defined objective before starting any undertakings. The same concept applies to blogging. I previously made a post about strategic blogging where I discussed the need for bloggers to set their blog objectives. You can read that post for a detailed information about how to set your blog’s objective for 2008 and what makes a good blog objective.
SWOT Analysis
SWOT stands for Strength, Weaknesses, Opportunities and Threats. The SWOT analysis is widely used by business strategists to create a framework for analyzing business peformances. Bloggers around the world have been using SWOT analysis to aid them in their strategy formulation. Read what Problogger and DailyBlogTips have to say about using SWOT analysis in your blog.
Using SWOT Analysis
I’m assuming that you already have identified your blog’s objectives for 2008. It will be of no help to use SWOT analysis if you have not set your goals and objectives. Grab some papers and a pen to write down the lists specified in the following.
1. Make a list of your Blog’s Strengths.
2. Make a list of your Blog’s Weaknesses.
3. Identify potential Opportunities.
4. Identify possible Threats.
5. Identify ways to use Strengths to counter your weaknesses.
6. Identify ways to maximize Opportunities and how you’ll be able to turn your Threats into Opportunities.
Broaden Your Sources of Information
In order to become a successful blogger, you should be able to provide valuable information to your blog readers. To do so, you need to have great sources of information, which can simply be accomplished by subscribing to different blog related to yours. Otherwise, you will have to browse the blogosphere to find useful information.
Another way to broaden your sources of information is to read books and magazines. If you haven’t tried using information from offline sources, then you’re missing alot.
Update Your Blog
Bloggers are scared of updating their blogs for fear of messing up. However, updating is an essential part of blogging. By updating your blogs, you will be able to improve your blog’s security and performance among others. Both Blogger and Wordpress recommend the use of their latest blogging platforms.
Lastly, don’t forget to renew your hosting services and extended your domain name registration.
