Placement of Ad Units

Placement of ad units is most important consideration while placing ad units on the body of blog. The following points must be considered before deciding on the placement of ad units on the blog.

  1. A leatherboard on the top of the page alongside your logo is a good idea considering the balance and symmetry of the blog. But sometimes your readers might want to skip the headers and other regular features and head straight into the actual content. This is particularly true for repeat visitors who are aware of the layout of your page. So in view of the above the top leatherboard may also continue, but the best choice for ad placement would be just above or below the first post.
  2. Another better place for placement of ad units is just below the last post of the page. This is essential because you need to provide your visitors with something to do after he/she has read/viewed your whole page. If the visitor finds something of his/her interest immediately after reading your post, chances are that the next click would be on the ad unit.
  3. Horizontal link units are also very good options for ad placement in between the blog content. The link units are non-obtrusive and blend easily with the content.
  4. If you allow image ads on your webpage then the CPM, ie, Cost per Thousand impressions increases, as it is higher for image ads than text ads. This increases the ad revenues even if the click rate is low.
  5. Another thing to keep in mind is that you should never cheat your visitors into clicking on the ad units. I have seen some websites where the ad units are so blended with the content that it is very difficult to make out where the ads end and the actual content begins. Whereas this is necessary to some extent, but do not overdo it. Also always avoid "Click here to support this site" - type of links that invite clicks on the ads. Google strictly monitors your site and your site can be banned for this...
