Today, I’ve implemented a new way for Bloggging Mix readers to leave their comments. Unlike before, you need to click on the comment link to be directed to a new window where you can find a form to leave your comments and reactions. This is the default setting of all Blogger Templates. However, with the integration of Haloscan on my template, a readily available comment form can be found at the end of each post.
Dilemma: Search Engine Optimization Over Convenient Commenting System
I’m not sure if using Haloscan is search engine friendly since it uses java script. This is one of the reasons that kept me from implementing it before when I’ve started Blogging Mix. As I was reading some articles on increasing the number of comments on your blog posts, I came across an article that compares the commenting system of Wordpress and Blogger. According to the same article (unfortunately, I forgot the link to it), bloggers using Wordpress gets 47% more comments from their readers than Blogger users. This is because of two major reasons.
# It’s more convenient to leave a comment on Wordpress blogs. As I have described earlier, when you would like to leave a comment on a Blogger blog, you need to click on the comment link before you find the comment form. Most blog readers have higher chances of leaving their comments on a post when a form is readily available at the bottom of the post.
# Wordpress allows you to link to your blog while Blogger links you to your Blogger Profile. The Blogger comment system does not link to a blog but links to your Blogger profile. If you do not have a Blogger account, you can choose for your identity to be anonymous or you can register for a Blogger account. This set up discourages readers from leaving their comments. Wordpress blogs on the other hand, give you the option to link to any page when you leave a comment to a certain post. This is one of the main incentives for blog readers to leave their comments.
There is however a problem when you decide to use Haloscan, all the previous comments on your posts will not be visible once you’ve started using their service. It will only be visible when you revert back to your original template. This is actually the main reason why most of the existing Blogger users decide not to use Haloscan despite it’s promising potentials. If you want to implement the same changes on your blog, visit Haloscan for more details. The set up process can be done in as little as 2 minutes. Especially when you are using the New Blogger.
I would love to hear from you. What do you think of the new comment system I’ve implemented? Do you think it’ll encourage more reades to leave their comments? Thank you very much for your time. Meanwhile, here are some of my previous posts you might be interested to read.
