Blogging Mix has been doing well so far in terms of traffic. Unlike my other blogs, I was able to build a considerable number of readers in as short as 1 month. I’ve also noticed an increase in my average unique daily traffic which is now over 100. This has been achieved in as short as less than 3 months. Here are the things I have done which I found effective and useful.
1. Write posts that your target readers want to read.
This is probably the most important thing I have learned. When you start writing posts or articles for your blog with your readers in mind, it will do a big difference. Don’t write for the purpose of pleasing Google or other search engines. Try to focus on what your prospect readers want to read and cover it as comprehensive as possible. In my previous post, I have written a list of blogging tips that will help you when writing contents for your blog.
2. Submit your blog to Blog, Search Engines and RSS Directories.
Second on my list is to submit your blog to blog, search engines and RSS directories. Submitting your blog to these directories will heighten your exposure to the blogosphere. The more your blog is exposed, the more traffic is driven to it. Read my previous article on submission to blog, search engines and RSS directories for a more comprehensive coverage of this topic. You may also want to check my article on submitting to the Open Directory Project, which is the major source of data for most search engines.
3. Join Blogcatalog, StumbleUpon, Mybloglog, Spicypage and similar communities.
Right after I started Blogging Mix, I joined these communities:
Blogcatalog.com: You can check out my previous post about traffic referrals from Blogcatalog for more tips and information. So far, Blogcatalog has sent me the most number of traffic referrals. It is also the place where I spend most of my time interacting with fellow bloggers.
StumbleUpon.com: Stumble Upon is another great place to promote your blog. I’ve experienced a hype in my traffic when my blog got stumbled by one of the top stumblers. With StumbleUpon, you can discover interesting blogs, make friends with other stumblers, exchange messages and ideas etc.
Mybloglog.com: Mybloglog allows you to build a network of friends and join communities. It is also a good way to connect with other bloggers.
Spicypage.com: I have received a lot of traffic referral from Spicypage despite the fact that I’m relatively new to their service. Spicypage is an interesting place to promote your blog, connect with other bloggers, join and create groups and post interesting articles.
4. Post regularly and Ping blogs every after post.
Pinging allows you to notify a number of services that keep track of weblogs and publish them. By pinging, you let the services know that your blog has been updated and hence, they crawl and index your site, publishing your blog contents, thus increasing your blog’s popularity. To make your pinging much convenient I advice you to use Pingoat.com or Pingomatic.com. Do not use Pingoat and Pingomatic at the same time to avoid spamming. Choose one that best suits your pinging needs and stick to it.
5. Participate at related Forums.
You can also increase traffic from your blog by joining and participating from Forums. Take note that you are encouraged to join forums where topics discussed are related to what you are blogging about. If your blog is all about blogging and you join a forum that talks about dating, you’re obviously wasting your time. For blogging related blogs, I advice you to join Authority Blogger. From this forum, you can promote your blog and get answers from fellow bloggers.
6. Submit Articles to Article Directories.
In my previous post, I have written about submitting articles to article directories as another great way to build links to your blog and increase your traffic referrals. I have also included a list of article directories where you can submit your articles.
7. Build links to your blog.
I have made it a habbit to visit and read at least 7 blogs everyday and leave messages on them. This has been a great source of traffic referrals to my blog. I have also noticed an increase in my comments since I’ve started visiting and commenting on other blogger’s blog. But before you jump into visiting other blogs to build links to your blog, read the 7 Blogging Mistakes that Bloggers do When Building Links for more information.
Tomorrow, I will be writting another list that I found to have worked for me. If you have anything to add, please feel free to do so through the comments. Meanwhile, here are some of my previous articles you may want to check.
